1978 Trip Meter
Thanks for the help!
This design on the trip odometer is one of the worst designs GM ever came up with.
Sometimes you can flick the reset and it will straighten up the numbers, other times you can not. You can pull the speedo from the car and try to fix it, but I doubt you can.
The reset **** is attached to a plunger arm that has plastic teeth on it. These teeth engage a roller gear that rolls the numbers back to zero. The roller gear is metal and force controlled. The teeth were out, don’t reset the numbers correctly and to be honest you’ll drive your self nuts trying to fix it. You may be able to lube it and get it to work, but again I doubt it. Some people have had luck doing this in the past and it might be worth a shot!
We can fix it, but to be honest, it won’t be worth the money, or the trouble for you to pull it out of the car if you can live with it.
