Default engine trouble

I was driving down the expressway and all of the sudden my car started acting like it was running out of gas. it chugged and coughed and finally died. My gas gauge has been acting funny so thought maybe out of gas. put in gas,no go. put gas in carb and finally started. Now I can only get acceleration when engine is not under load IE. going up hill. Drove 40 miles @ 30 mph and it finally stalled out and would not start. Fuel tank is full, oil pressure is great. Where should I start to problem solve???:

I would check the fuel pressure first.

Maybe you ran it so low on gas that it sucked a bunch of junk into the fuel line, partially plugging it... ???

In my opinion, you almost identified the root cause when you did a trouble shooting scerario by stating the problem in your original post when you said that you added gas to the tank with a no start but it started after you put gas directly into the carb. As others have already stated, the problem is related to fuel delivery.
