The newly rebuilt 427 is sitting in the chassis with the body off and i'm almost ready to put in fluids and break it in. I want to break it in with the body off to make sure everything is OK before dropping the body.
Are there any good old posts or tech papers describing the procedure, including how to wire it up and what type of switch to use? Also, how to vary rpm's and how long? thanks
Assuming you have hooked up some gauges- oil pressure, water temp, tach, you'll need a good push button switch for the starter and a good toggle for the ignition. At least 10ga wire for the start solenoid and 14-16 gauge for the ignition.
As far as the start itself- 1st thing after you get it running is make sure it's full of water or coolant- look for any leaks and set the timing. Best way IMHO is get the timing close enough it'll run, start it, do a quick leak check and water level check and run it up to 2000 to break in the cam. I vary the speed around 2k- 1500 to just over 2000- IF you have a new flat tappet cam- old cam and lifters don't need any break in. Follow the cam maker's suggestions on break in.
I think you should contact MrGoFaster for direction on first start-up!!!
