So the "tray" type thing in the rear compartment area that I believe is on a hinge rattles like all heck, think it rattles more when the heat's on then off...Is this a known problem...What exactly does it do? I think I read it has something to do with heat..
You need to be more specific. Are you talking about the compartments behind the seat on a C-3?
Sounds like he is talking about the astro ventilation door that closes the rear vents when the heat is applied.
If so, I have the opposite issue. Mine rattles just a little bit until I turn the heat on just a little bit. Haven't had a chance to look into it but I'm guessing it is some kind of bushing missing on the linkage that operates the door.
It's not a tray to put things in but it feels like a tray above, sort of under the rear vents on the rear dec in back of the rear windown..rattles..annoying..wodnering if this is common..
If I push it up or pull it down it does not rattle, it's a driver and I just don't want to listen to the rattle for now, okay to stick a sponge between it for now, that'll hold it in the downward position..
How does astroventilation work, open for fresh air closed when the heat is on I assume??

I'm far from an expert on these things. It works off vacuum and in mine the door is closed when the heater temperature **** is turned from cold to warm. If I remember correctly, the astro ventilation system was used to keep from having vent windows.
They make seal kits and other parts for these. I just haven't had time to look into what mine needs. I doubt you would hurt anything with the sponge. You could probably seal the door permanently closed if you felt you didn't need the ventilation. My heater works so well that I've been considering removing the door altogether if I don't get the rattle fixed properly.
