HEI Conversion

My Tach has gone out. I tested the cable and its fine so I decided I might as well upgrade to HEI since I would have to pull the distributor anyway to replace the parts. I've looked at Ecklers and Mid America and they seem to both have the same distributor but for a very different price. Am I missing something here? Also I've done several searches and haven't been able to find a step by step guide on replacement. I've never replaced a distributor before and not sure what I need to do.

There the same thing, E Bay has them even cheaper. $100.00+..

For my 1970 I got a HEI distributor tach drive for about $175 from Star Performance. Has worked great for the last 8 years.

I bought a tach drive HEI in the mid 1990's (?) for about $500. I think it was one of the first on the market, so the price was probably unreasonable. Prices look really low now. Are these units of good quality? Made in China?

You buy an blueprinted HEI distributor with a mechanical tach drive from Summit Racing for approximately $250.
