Default Body-Off Engine Break-In Procedure

I'm getting ready to fire up the motor and break it in on the frame and am trying to work out how to wire it up. Here is what i am thinking but want to check with you to make sure that i get this right as i am a novice at best..............

1. positive battery terminal to B terminal on starter solenoid
2. negative battery terminal grounded to frame
3. positive terminal of coil to R terminal on solenoid
4. negative terminal of coil to distributor
5. positive terminal of battery to S terminal of starter solenoid with an in-line push button to simulate ignition
6. push button to crank the engine over and start break-in

i will follow the wire gauge requirements as specified in the AIM. Did i get this right? Anyone ever set this up the same way before? Thanks

The R terminal is for starting only( to bypass the resistor), you will need to connect a full 12V positive to the coil via a resistor to limit coil current.
Make sure you have the ground strap between the frame and the block or put batt Neg direct to the block.

if you gnd the battery to frame, make sure you have another gnd cable,
from frame to motor/starter. I just did this exact thing, holler if you have more questions.
the frame makes a great motor stand, also makes it real nice to tune and adjust everything, good luck.... 69VETT

thanks for the feedback do you know the wire size and current limit to the coil? If i know the max current i can calculate the resistor size. also, does anything connect to the R terminal of the solenoid? my corvette shop manual is showing the positive side of the coil attached to R terminal. how is the weather down under?

thanks i'm hoping that this all works out as this is a first for me. i do already have the starter grounded to the frame so it sounds like if i ground the negative side of the battery to the frame i will be ok. this weekend i will be getting the gauges rigged in place, get the water pump belt on, get fluids in, and priming the engine. next weekend i am hoping to fire her up. thanks for the feedback did your engine fire up first crank?

use 12 Ga. wire, to wire your coil and dist, you may need a resistor if your running points.
Fired up first try, but had a few leaks to take care of.
Oil prime the Motor, Prime the carb.
ensure your timing is set up correctly.
It should fire up pronto ! good Luck ! 69VETT

how you going to handle temperature monitoring ?
I had my temperature gauge out and just wired it to 12v,gnd. and the sender unit.
sitting the gauges on the front tire.
I used Tempary gauges mounted to the motor Tach. vacuum, Oil PSI,.
it worked just fine !

you do have a Motor breakin plan/procedure ?
watch out for Gas leaks, and have a fire Extinquisher near by. 69VETT
