My temperature, fuel level, and oil pressure gauges are not reliable. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. Now that I have a new engine in the car I feel the need to have reliable gauges.
Are there some common problems with the wiring in Corvette harnesses or gauge clusters that usually cause this? My temp & pressure sending units are both brand new, but replacing them had no apparent effect.
I know some of you have been through this before, and I'm just hoping someone on here has found the root cause and has been successful in fixing it.
Oh, one other thing- I have had the gauge cluster out, and the wiring all seemed tight- no loose terminals or connections were evident. I haven't had any of the rest of the electrical system apart. My clock doesn't work either for what that's worth.
If your 76 is similiar to a 77 I would first look at the printed circuit board on the back of your gage cluster. They deteriate with age. The connector plug on the back of that cluster may not be seated good. Make sure the ground wire that is in the connector is good. If the ground is not good it will drive those gages not to read properly. i have been catching hell with my gage cluster not reading properly especially the oil pressure gage
I didn't notice any PCB on my gauge cluster, I think it was all wires with no printed circuit board. Every gauge had its own wires if I remember right.
My Camaro gauge cluster has a PCB so I'm familiar with what you're referring to, but I don't remember one on this cluster.
