Default Tread Measurement

Anyone using Kumho tires? I need a tread width measurement for 225/55 17 and 255/50 17.

Thanks
Tom

I thought this info might be easy to find on the web but I couldn't do it. I could find no specs on tread width for Kumho tires - total width but not tread width. I did find several other brands of tires on Tire Rack's website that did list tread width. For example, most of the 225/55-17 tires I found had 7.8 to 8.0 inches of tread width. You might check their site and estimate a range based on all the other brands for both sizes.

I thought it would be easy to find as well. No luck. The Kumho site doesn't show it either. I am going to 17s and trying to pick wheel widths and tire sizes. I want 27" rears and no less than 26.5" diameter fronts. I am thinking of using 225/55 front on 17X8 and 255/50 rear on 17X9. I saw a set of 255/50 on 17X8 rims and I did not like the look of the sidewall. It was sucked in. I'm sure it had to do with the brand but I did not pay enough attention to what what they were. As you said most 225/55 are very close to 8" tread width and wider cross section so I think they will look good on 8" wheels. 255/50 should be a little over an inch wider so I'm thinking 9" of tread and would look good on 9" wheels.

I got the "ok" from the better half to spend the 2 grand but now I can't make up my mind!!!!!!

I'm running 235/55-17's (27.2") all the way around on 17x8's. I really like the fit and the way they look.

Here's a good website to play with to get dimensional wheel and tire size info and play around with various combinations.

http://wheelsmaster.com/rt_specs.jsp

My 17x8's are 4" backspacing so I used -12mm offset to get it right for comparisons.

Yeah, I used that tire tool before. It's cool but it doesn't give a real look at the side wall shape. Do you have any pics of your wheel/tire combo?

What I am considering is 17X8 4" backspacing on the front and 17X9 5" backspacing on the rear. I am running 15X8 4" backspacing all around now with no clearance issues. 255/60 tires.

This is the only pic I have at the moment. Remember that air pressure can make a difference in the way the sidewall looks.

Since your clearance is good with the 255/60-15's, I wouldn't think you would have any issues with the 255/50-17's.

They look good. The sidewalls don't looked stretched or sucked in. Nice wheel/tire fit.

Thanks
