Considering installing the Hooker header back system 16521HKR on my 78 L-82 along with my existing Dynomax super turbo mufflers. The Summit site has an application note saying “Must use 2 1/4 in. offset inlet/center outlet muffler.” My mufflers have an offset inlet and offset outlet. Any issues with this setup. Will the 16521HKR have any fit problems when paired with a set of Jegs headers? Anyone running a similar setup?
I haven't confirmed it but seems the offset inlet/offset outlet may not work with the Hooker 16521HKR system. It seems to be designed for the offset inlet/center outlet because the inlet is offset on the other side. I could flip the ones I have but the outlet move further out... Confusing
I had the Hooker header back system. It hits everything in its path under the car. I took it off and sent it back and had 2.5" custom bent pipes put on.
I JUST installed this like 3 weeks ago..it was a PITA. It is a noice setup after re-working it and cutting parts short...and reversing the standard muffler brackets on the mufflers.. The price is right but expect to be in the garage for at least 4 hours getting things to fit.

BTW.. I AM indeed happy with the final results and it does clear all parts of my frame / monospring.. Out of the BOX... That would never have happened.. the price is right but my time was perhaps not worth it....

Wow, thats good to know and a bit surprising. How much did you spend on those custom pipes?
I have used 2 of these kits. The first install took all day, the second took about 3 hours. A welder, chop saw, and torch are must haves. I would also purchase another kit in the future.
My experience was exactly opposite of the others. My brother and I put this system in my 76 in about 2 hrs. Cut the flanges off the front 2 pieces so they could be adapted to my Stan's Tri-Y headers and cut a piece off of each side in the rear to mate up with my mufflers. Fit great and tuck up under nicely!!

Sorry bytor, I do not have any pics of that little adventure...
I cribbed the car up on 4 points just enough to get the new header under and in the driver's side. It didn't leave much room for us working on our back with the exhaust so I didn't take pics.
It took us about 1.5 hours to put the headers/plugs/wires in and get the engine compartment back together. Then another 2 hours for the rest of the pipes. We were quite happy with the whole set-up and time it took.
I could probably take a pic or two but it'd be a few days. I'm onshift working 12s at the plant right now.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help other than an opinion......
I bought the hooker exhaust that was designed to fit the hooker comp headers. It was not even close to fitting. They also eliminate the factory exhaust mounts and use a goofy system of brackets. I sent it back. The hooker headers fit excellent, though. I then bought an exhaust system from Allen's that was really nice.
