I just got the motive brake bleeder from Zips during their 15% brake special. Best $59.00 I ever spent. Works best as described on this forum. I used two 6" C Clamps from home depot and a block of wood.
I did not put any fluid in the bleeder, just pumped to 10 psi and kept refilling the MC after I drained fluid from each bleeder valve.... I'm going to put away my mityvac that I have been using for years...

Over the years working on C3 brake systems, I was never able to properly bleed the brake system. With the Motive, problem solved. I suggest getting the back end up in the air, keeping the pressure low, and going around at least twice. Then you may safely drive your beloved Vette...
Yep, I built my own recently recently similar to this. Excellent beer drinking project. http://www.streetcruizin.com/forums/...ad.php?t=11953
I didn't have any rubber to use as a seal so I used a old PC mouse pad. Worked great! I love it and it's easy to use. Just don't get crazy with the pressure.
It's hard to convince people that are new to the C3 of how great it is. Once you have wasted a few days struggling with your cantakerous Vette brakes you come to appreciate the Motive bleeder.
Instead of using a plastic material for a gasket, there is a rubber product that comes in 12" x 12" sheets. I believe it comes in different thickness and is called red rubber backing (or Packing). I buy it at the local hardware store in the plumbing suppy area.
I am glad to hear it works. I have one that I have not used yet. I will get my chance as soon as my trailing arm comes back from repair, and I replace the Caliper I took off.
I'm confused
If you are not using any brake fluid, aren't you pumping air into the master cylinder?
Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of bleeding the brakes?
I thought this type of pwer bleeder was supposed to pressurize the system and pump fluid in to replace any air that is in the system.
I have always gravity bled my 68 and I have a rock hard pedal so haven't had the need for this gadget or the mighty vac that is in my toolbox.

You are using air pressure to "push" the level in the MC lower as you crack open each bleeder, one at a time. If you let the MC get too low (sucking air) then yes, you need to start over. I used the graduated collection bottle from my old mityvac so i knew about how much fluid I could drain before i had to stop and refill MC. That is the beauty of the C-clamps method. Very efficent and fast, but I had already bleed the system prior when I dissassembled all the calipers and rebuilt them. Now that I have used this tool and are confident i can deploy without spraying fluid all over the place, i will probably put fluid in the motive bottle and not worry about having to stop and refill MC.
