QUOTE]... these radios that have NO faceplate controls
whats up with that??
and they have these faceplates that have lil motors in em that fold out!!
How many of you c3'ers out there have cut your dashes for DIN sized CD players?? ...
:)[/QUOTE]
Have an 80's gauge cluster trim that someone on the forum sent awhile back. This allows the oil temp. gauge cutout to match the others. Cut it out for a CD/FM, currently no radio. Will put in a Kenwood w/ "no faceplate & the lil motors".
The disappearing face is supposed to fool some ? that there is no radio & if they take it anyway they need a code to get it to work.
Ya might as well get the pics. ready, they are gonna hit you hard for them.
Which Sony was that? Did you try to get it fixed?
Not being an eletronics expert... I've seen guys mention "DIN" units here a few times. What's a "DIN" unit? (May be a dumb question, but inquiring minds want to know. )
it was an old 400 dollar sony unit... i got about 5 years outta it so im happy... :)
a sony cdx 4160
it only need a new volume up button!
but the new alpine is really cool! i find the BBE processor really improves the sound! im thnking about adding a subwoofer now.
yah im too lazy to get an extension cord out for my digital camera.. the stupid thing eats batteries like crazy...
a DIN unit is a standard radio "size"....
the problem with installing a DIN in a corvette is you have to cut the faceplate (its pretty thick!!) and you have to get a custom faceplate made to cover it up nicely... or if you have a radio delete optioned console available i think that would work perfectly!!!
there are also some really cool receivers out right now that have XM satellite service!!
and there are radios that can read MP3 cd's also so you can put ~~150 songs on 1 cd!!!!
i dont like the motorized faceplate radios.... for ~500-700 bux i think ill pass!! its just another thing that can break i suppose...
Re: just replaced my cd player.....// (daily_driver)
daily. I think I have the same alpine in my daily driver. I say that because I spent like $250 for it. It was the "top-of-the-line" alpine at circut city. There where others that cost more, but this was the highest priced alpine...
Anyway, the one with no faceplate that folds down, and the buttons on the back are AWESOME. $350 for one though. Im seriously considering selling mine and buying that one. A friend of mine is selling me his 2 12's and box for $120. The box alone was $100, and the speakers where $140 a peice, and they're still under warranty...Im getting a helluva deal I think.
If I can convince my parents to let me keep the vette, I will get the faceless CD deck, if not I'll keep my alpine for now.
Re: just replaced my cd player.....// (daniel77350)
When I put my Alpine in my '76, I used a dremel tool with a cutting wheel.
It took 3 wheels to do the job. That aluminum is a lot tougher than I thought.
Make sure that you wear eye protection and some type of breathing mask.
There is a tremendous amount of metal dust.
It will also go a lot smoother if you remove the center guage bezel to do the
job. There are reinforced areas behind there, so you're not dealing with the
same thickness all the way along.
Re: just replaced my cd player.....// (daily_driver)
I don't like changers, I don't see the point in them. Changing a CD at a stop light is not that hard. not to mention you always have to change CD's in the cartridge unless you only own 6 CD's that you listen to.
Re: just replaced my cd player.....// (daniel77350)
daniel, i MAKE my own cd's !!!! that way i like every song on the CD (about 15 songs to a cd....) multiply that by 12 cd's in a cd changer and you have 14 hours straight of all songs you love!!!
yah ok i admit it..
i steal music from the internet and burn em to cdr's...
i dont see the point of paying 15 bux per cd when i only like 1 song on em!!

:blueangel: :blueangel: :blueangel:
nobody should own music anyways!!
Re: just replaced my cd player.....// (daily_driver)
that is true...I too burn my CD's, but I don't mix them, I just burn copies of complete CD's I like. Im not much of a CD "skipper"...I have a bad habbit of listening to one straight through, or at least until the song I like, then I'll change it out.. I mean I guess I can see a CD changer, but I don't see how one would make my life better....expecally considering the price of the things...
Re: just replaced my cd player.....// (daily_driver)
my bro had one in his truck(I installed it). I can't really remember how it sounded, because it was about a year and a half ago. But if memory serves me, it'll sound like a regular CD. I think where the poor FM quality comes from is somewhere between the radio DJ and your antenna. The CD unit goes between antenna and deck. I think its almost as good as a regular CD player, but not quite as good as the indash.
I want one of those radios that has the screen that pops out, and has a touch screen. Those are awesome, but $1,700,...
Re: just replaced my cd player.....// (daily_driver)
I was able to find a used '76 console at a Corvette parts store with a hole already professionally cut. I also just installed a new Blaupunkt San Jose CD/MP3 player in my C3. MP3 format is awesome. I can average 150 songs on one disc.
