200r4 w/D5 converter stall question
I have a 200r4 going into my '81 project street car with a pretty good 383. I'm rebuilding the trans myself and was thinking about reusing the stock converter. It's the D5 converter out of an SS Monte Carlo or GN Buick. Who on here has used this converter with good results? What would I expect my stall to be? I have flushed the converter several times with new fluid even though it was clean from the beginning. Here's the whole combo:
383ci
9.8:1 verified compression
Crane hydraulic roller (234/242 @ .050" with .539"/.558" lift on 112 LSA)
Chevy 487x heads fully ported with 2.05"/1.60" valves
Edelbrock RPM intake
750 Demon carb
All MSD ignition and distributor
200r4 trans
3.73 rear gears
Headers/true 2 1/2 duals and Flow 40s

With that much cam, a stock converter has too low a stall speed.
Check this out. Note thier numbers are "advertised duration"
