Alright. I have an aluminum 5.3 lm4. The motor comes with the front sump trailblazer style pan. I am installing a c5 vette pan. THE PROBLEM-the 5.3 dipstick goes into the side of the pan. The vette dipstick goes into the side of the block. There is no hole in my block. only a boss that can be drilled. Do I drill this? Anyone else run into this problem? Things to watch for?
The vette pan doesnt have a dipstick hole. And I cant use the front some trailblazer pan. So its either the fbody pan or the vette pan. both of which have holes in the block for the dipstick

Okay I misunderstood. My fault.
Is the engine complete and in the car or is it out and on a stand? Any good machine shop would be able to bore the provisions for the block dipstick...or at the very least they might be able to modify the oil pan you have for a pan dipstick.
When I got my LS2 out of the GTO it also had a front sump. If it is the same as mine the boss in the side of the block had a metal plug in it which I just punched out. Of corse I figured that out after I installed the new pan and had to remove it again to retrieve the plug.
I dont believe there is a plug but i will check. Just seems to be an aluminum boss. Iv got to get a vette dipstick tube from the dealership. Im sure its the same size as the trailblazer one but I want to make sure before I mic it and drill a hole.
