How do you guys with fibreglass side pipe covers keep them from getting chipped? They are directly behind the front wheels and they get hit with anything the front tires pick up. Any suggestions for ptotection?
Binnie
I have the covers on my 79, but they are painted with engine paint silver so they can stand the heat ,and I think that paint is a thicker paint, so it will stay on better. Your car looks nice with the sidepipes painted the same color ,but I think that paint wouldnt hold up as good! Just my 2cents worth!!!!
I've seen thin clear pieces of plastic that are used to put on quarter panels to protect from rock chips. Maybe you can adapt something like that to cover the front of your covers.
Hey Binnie,
That's such a sweet sidepipe setup, the yellow on yellow.
I've seen the clear paint protectors that look kinda like mudflaps for the back wheel, nothing for up front though.(don't think I would go with that solution anyway)
The static cling vinyl sheets won't live down there long even if you could get them to stick. I'm ready to start replacing sections on my own covers because of the beating they take in that area.
Maybe a question for the paint gurus or your paint shop, are there any super hard clear coats you could spray in that area that wouldn't chip?
Good luck...
