I have a 80 vette that is getting a keisler automatic trans. I will be installing a keisler crossmember which will give me more room for exhaust. I would like to install system from original manifolds, no cats, and not real loud mufflers as this is going to be a daily driver. Since I have the new crossmember would like a 2 1/2 inch system from maybe C central but not sure what year would fit properly. Any help. Dave
I have been down this road a few times with a few different cars and trucks, including a '77 Vette. I suggest exactly what you are wanting, but drive your car to a custom exhaust shop after the engine and transmission are in, and have them weld you in a custom 2.5" system, no CATs, and with a pair of Magnaflow mufflers.
If they use their own pipe stock and labor it won't be very expensive...I think my last install was around $425, and with custom bending...it'll all fit in there perfectly.
Shop around there locally and see what they are charging.
I did the same with my 82 and Flomaster 40's. They are way to loud and in the spring, I'm changing to Magnaflow's. I've seen other bolt on jobs and they just hang low and look stupid. Get a custom job, you won't be sorry.
I did ditto with my '79- headers, true duals, no cats, and Flowmasters. And yes, Flowmasters under fiberglass are LOUD. But its fun setting off all the alarms in parking garages. Also, with no cats, I eventually had to register it in Arizona when Calif went to computer-linked testing to specific VIN numbers, or what ever they use.
