I am going to rebuild my (1968 SB) rear suspension in the next few weeks, including dropping the differential out. The mechanic (not a Corvette guy) who looked the car over for me when I bought it mentioned it needing a "tail shaft seal," because it was leaking "a little." Anybody ever replaced this part? How do I do it, and where do I find one?
If it involves removal or disassembly of the trans, just say so and we'll call it a day...I can handle a few small spots on my garage floor...
Easy fix. Seal pops in and out with zero disassembly of the tranny. Driveshaft has to come out but that's it. Small chisel and hammer the old seal comes out, pack the backside cavity with grease and drive it back in.

That is what I was hoping to hear...thank you. Can anyone recommend a source for the part?
Just have the car level or nose down when you change the seal, you'll lose hardly any fluid.Pick up the seal at your favorite parts store it is pretty common, make sure the parts dope knows it for a turbo 400!
