I just had some work done on my 1975 L-82. (rear main seal replaced). Now I find that the oil dip stick is no longer verticle, but now facing more toward the front of the car. Can I just twist it --- or what needs to be done to move it more to the verticle position. I've never fooled with a dip stick before, so before I crawl under the car to see what's what, I thought I'd get some guidance here.
I wouldn't leave it as is. I think a vertical dipstick tube, and thus the dipstick itself, would give a more accurate reading. You should be able to twist it back to its original position.

edit:
I should have said to rotate it instead of twist it.

The dipstick in my old tired 350 is loose enough to turn when you bump it. I was thinking the same as you all along, and when I had my pan off last to change the rear main seal I crawled back under and had a buddy rotate the tube a full revolution. The dipstick level itself did not change at all...just the rotation. So the level reading won't change based on where the tube it rotated. Don't worry, I thought the same thing until I checked for myself.

I had to tilt mine slightly forward to clear my wire looms and headers, and the oil level indicator on the dipstick still reads the same as it did when the tube was completely vertical.
