The only one I have seen that could be easily retrofitted is, well... a cheesy ricer thing. It is a box that sits on the dash and reflects off the windshield. With a little extra work it could be recessed into the dash (for example inthe drivers side speaker well) to give a much cleaner install.
If you've seen better systems I would love to hear about it.
The one that I was referring to comes with a small box that interprets signals from a sensor you mount at the speedo cable connection - the box has controls on it so you can change what is displayed.
i.e. speed, rpms, travel dist etc....
So far as recessing into the dash I always thought that putting it into the speaker recess - and subsequently moving to larger speakers in the kick panels - would be slick without requiring any cutting onthe dash itself - it would require a new cover that matched the speaker opening.
LOL.. i thought you were talkin about the things you see on the new suv's and stuff. ya know the uhhh compass and thermometer.. cuz i was thinkin about puttin one of those in me car
The unit that Fauxrs is referring to only reads in Km.
Ah not so my good friend.. well kinda not so. The one that looks good and has more than just speed and rpm only reads in km. This one though http://www.defi-shop.com/vsd2/vsdframe.htm reads in both - a simple switch determines which.
Not as attractive - and I am not fond of the display - but it would work. The unit does not come with the speed sensor but these guys http://www.jagsthatrun.com/Pages/Spe...eedometer.html have a sensor that will mount between the tranny and the speedo cable that can provide the correct signal.
I did manage to find one person on the internet who has cutom made a setup for a '95 Z-28, but it was very expensive, required an ECM, and didn't work especially well. There is a special coating on the windshields of the cars with a HUD that prevents 'ghosting' (reflections from both the near and extreme fibers of the windshield). Without that coating, I believe you would have to stick that goofy looking thing on your windshield.
