Harmonic balancer removal (in car)

Hi.

I have a BB in my 75. I want to change the harmonic balancer. Will I be able to remove/install an 8 inch H. balancer without raising the engine? It looks close with the crossmember indentation.

Thanks for any help on this.

You should be able to get it out without raising it.

The hardest part is the articulation of the wrench and ratchet on the removal tool...and if the balancer has never been off expect a fight. Lubricate the threads of the removal tool with engine oil and keep it lubed through the removal process. The threads will get hot fast and you don't want the threads to get screwed up.

I have a 70 BB I had to raise mine to get it past the front frame.
