all sorted...i screwed it in 5 more turns and it now kicks down about where i like it. before i had to be stomping on it and on bit of an uphill for it to work. now i give it a decent amount of gas and it drops a gear. found out there was about 24 full turns of adjustment after tinkering with it.

The screw is inside the vacuum nipple on the modulator.
I do have to say that most manufacturers recommendatons are to go no more than 2 turns from the factory setting on the modulator. Anything more will stretch the diaphram and make it fail early.
