Default 1980 L-48 Engine Harness ?

Good morning,
I just purchased the engine harness and starter harness to replace the old ones. The starter harness is simple. I had pretty well figured where everything goes on the engine harness until I went to disconnect the old harness from the firewall. The bolt is turning like there is a nut or something spinning on the other side of the firewall I can't see because of very limited space. Does the bulk head on the harness snap into place on the firewall? I am almost finished restoring the motor and to be quite honest I am starting to get a little gun shy of messing something up at this point. I feel silly asking very possibly a simple question, but I don't want to break anything. We already had the motor running but found/caused a short in the harness. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Have a Great Day,
Ray

Keep turning, it'll eventually separate from the fuse block.

Thank you very much. I got it off the firewall just as you said turn and turn . But I had to put an air wrench on it spinning it , while gently prying it off as it losened. Now I just have to figure out how to get to the two wires that go to windshield washer pump back it seems under the washer bottle. Which I cansee the wires but I can't not see where they are connected. Hoping I don't have to remove a lot of stuff to get to it.

Thank you so much for you help, Great appreciated,
Have a Great day,
Ray

I got the harness off and the other one pushed back into the socket, but as of yet the bolt is still spinning , very possibly the same issue , keep turning , Ay!
I stopped missing with it before I started talking to it again.
Again thank you for you help,
Have a great day,
Ray

Happy to help, I just did this on my '72 this past summer. You just have to get the alignment of the connector, the bolt and the socket just right then the bolt should pull it all into place. Pretty easy to do on my '72 working through the fender, but I bet it's awkward on an '80.

Yes Sir, again thank you so much for your help with this harness. We are on the road to very soon having the car out of the garage hopefully. I figured that it had to be just right to get the bolt to catch threads and tighten up. have not got it there just right yet, walking away from it before I start giving it dirty looks, and talking to it, . Slowly, but surely it is all coming back together with for the most part people like yourself pointing me in the right direction to work on something I have never done before, like this engine harness. I have tremendous patience with this kind of stuff, and it is not in me too put it back together any other way than it was intended to be 28 years ago when it was brand new.I have looked at several other cars around here trying to figure out some of the little detail things just to find a lot of ragged out and butchered up cars with all kind of stuff buthchered up. I could not sleep at night trashing a car out like that. It is taking a lot more time and money than I and my wife really expected it too, but we/I am really trying to do this either like it was new, or better. To all you folks that help us new people to the Corvette world out when we are tottally lost in doing whatever it is we are trying to fix/correct on these cars, I want to say "Thank you very, very, much!" Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, God Bless you and yours!

Something I did notice when I took the old harness off and it made me glad I had already bought a new one. If you follow the harness down from the firewall where it connects to right under the brake booster, where my hands barely fit. It goes down and at the point where it was tied to the car, where it turns and goes back up. It had rubbed all the way through the plastic protective covering on the original harness, starting to rub into the wires. At first I thought it was burnt , but then I realized that was where it had been tracing it down the harness. Check that out of your car, it might very well save you a lot of headache in the future.

Have a great day,
God Bless,
Ray
