Default Hello All New-be with 77 Elec Problem Help needed !!

Hi all
I am new here and new to Vettes and not the best wrench either ,
Here is the problem
I have no Ignition Nada ,nothing
here is when /where it started
Last week the car died on her way home from work
dark out Lights on !!!!
she told me a week earlier the gen. light was on I paid no attention
So when this happened I figured it was gone (Generator) and killed the battery. I went a head and got a new Gen> in the process I touched the wire to the Gen. hit the Manifold as my buddy tried to stop it I disconnected the battery which I know I should have done first
HERE is where I am !!!
I have nothing I turn on the car no Dash lights nothing
but I also have no head light horn radio nothing JUST DEAD
Battery is charged
Problem help ??
the other day I got in it and it started right up
like nothing was wrong
Now its completely Dead Again
Where do I start
Thanks

If you accidently ground the big red wire on the back of the alternator it will normally blow one of the fusible links down at the starter, in which case you will have nothing after. So take a close look at those fusible links down by the starter, I'm pretty sure you will find your problem there. May need an ohm meter to check them though in case they aren't obviously burnt.

Thanks
These fusible links you speak of are the Wire Links ?? correct
If this is the case and I swore there must be one (fusible link) I burnt
I wonder why it started that one day
I forgot to say the Day it started up It had rained real bad
Could it have SHORTED to Correct ?? while it was wet ??

The fusible link you will be looking for is at the bulkhead connector under the brake booster. On the 77 model the alt. has a direct feed through a fusible link to the fuse box

Might be 2 problems or you had a disconnect like the neg batt ground cable at the frame under the batt box or one of your battt conn or the pos term at the solenoid .JAT

Thanks for the replies
Believe it or not none of the above !!
There is a plug // link behind the fuse block the engine side of the Firewall
the Main Hot line pulled free from it
so from the start the wire was the Problem (I guess) but the vette now has a new Generator
Thanks again
BTW nice web page
