the problem is at exhaust 1 and 3 where the headers are very close to plugs.
there are those fabric protections for plugs , but since a small piece of the header is exposed , it burns the plugs fabric protections and then the plug wire rubber.
My 350 had the same issue, drove me crazy, no comments from the peanut gallery about the trip......anyway, I cured the problem with Jacobs ceramic plug boots, 8 of them ~140 bux or so.....OUCH!!!....
all else failed....short plugs, boot this boot that reboot,,
Then, have your timing checked out. Timing can affect your exhaust temperature if it's off a bit.
more advance needed right? I have to check it... 2 days ago I washed the engine. some water on the exhausts. I started the engine and after 1 second only that the engine was on , lot of steam from the exhausts. after 1 second only! too hot do you think?

Had the same problem on my 68 427 CI with HOOKER side headers.
Bought the original shielded GM wires and this plug boots are very slim, have plenty of gap.

I even tried some ceramic extensions, but had problems with misfiring. Could see the spark traveling over the ceramic ? Never found out what caused this. So gave up this idea. Have this things now laying around.
