Hello,
I was wondering if someone could help me with a heater box question. There is a door behind the dash that looks like it is part of the heater or ac system. The door does not appear to have any vacuum actuator connected to it and I am wondering how it is supposed to operate. Maybe a cable connects to it or there is an actuator behind the door? Anyway, any help you can give would be great. Thanks to everyone for posting great information on this site, it has allowed me to do a lot of things that I would not have been able to do otherwise! Here are some pics, hopefully they come out ok.
Behind the heater box is a vacuum actuator. You can’t see it, but if you feel behind (If you have small fingers) the main box there is a vacuum hose. If you go to this link you will see where this valve is located. http://willcoxcorvette.com/repairand...lp.php?hID=247
This door is vacuum operated and diverts the air in different positions of either cool, defrost or floor.
It was not illustrated in the 1968-1982 Assembly manual so the only way to actually see how it functions and where it’s located is to look at this schematic. This page will also show you have each vacuum hose in the heater and a/c system functioned.
Yes it can be hard to read and more so when you can not see the part on the car you are looking for.
Just imagine the parts in the picture like you were looking over top of it. This is the diagram from the GM assembly manual and it is on the money. But not being able to see the actuator I can understand the confusion.
