Default Dowel pins

Who actually changed the dowel pins for the bellhouse to get proper alignment? How did you remove the one next to the oil filter?

I just checked a spare 350 block I have. The dowel pin adjacent to the oil filter boss appears to be open in the back like the other side. It looks like I could just drive the pin out on this block from the back.

That's exactly how I did it a month ago.

Here's how you do it. Drill and tap the pin (I think I used a 1/4-20 thd). Thread a nut all the way up on a bolt with a washer and appropiate socket. Then thread the bolt into the tapped hole in the pin. Next turn the nut against the top of the socket and it will pull the pin right out. Pictures worth a thousand words.

I wouldn't waste the time drilling and tapping. You just spray silicone or oil on the dowel and pound it straight through. Your not going to reuse it. because you are probably going to install offset dowels of some type

I just did this job a month or so ago. I just hit them with a drift pin and hammer. They came right out. Took about 30 seconds per side.

This what I did, although I just threaded the bolt in until it bottomed out in the block & kept turning to push the dowel out. The passenger side is easy to knock out, the drivers side would not budge so I resorted to the drill & tap method.

Used these dowel pins, very easy to adjust & lock in place http://www.robbmcperformance.com/products/dowels.html

On my Goodwrench create engine, I could not get to the back side of the left side pin to hammer it out.

You are right! You can't get to the back side. So you just hammer them straight through - knocking them towards the front of the block.

Those RobbMc dowels look nice I use the longest moroso with my thicker blow proof and block saver plate

I think there is some confusion with the term "backside". When I removed mine I just drove them through from the bell housing side of the block.

Bellhouse is rear.
I already have the Lakewood 007 pins.
I have a big block and the gap between oil filter and Bellhouse flange seems to small to get the pin out. I still opt. Duke's setup, nicely controlled.
