I have the 79, as you may have seen what I wrote before..... I have had some issues regarding the muffler size for this.... I have no cat on the car... Ummm.... I want the Dynomax magnum or performance mufflers ... they range from 31.00 to 50.00 a pop. and compare to flows, and in some conmparisons give you a louder less flow sound. I HAVE been told I need a 2 1/2 in and 2 1/2 out size... am I right? Hell I dunno, I keep hearing different things.... Any ideas??? or suggestions on iexpensive mufflers for deep rich sound....? I really like the dynomax.... Thanks for any help!!
In a nutshell:
I have Flowmaster 50 Deltaflows with offset in/out at 2.5 inch. on my 82. Nice rumble but not too loud. I have stock exhaust with cat.
If you want nice cound, I recommend Flowmaster 40's, 2.5 in/out. You will get a lot of responses on this. Go to a muffler shop and LISTEN to as many as you can. Sound of the car is a individual thing, different for everybody

I listened to Ravens and Dynomax before I got the Flowmaster Delta 40's and i am POSITIVE I made the right call...I love them
Thanks a lot man..... I need to get out and hear what I like... I heard a new camaro with dynomax on, and heard how cheap they were, and saw the performace reviews... seemed nice! I will see the flows too, I had flows on my 86 TA.... a clean nice rumble, but not as lowed as Im wanting.... Time will tell... thanks for the input..!!!
I'm using Dynomax (Thrush) Turbos. $13/ea.!!! I've heard that they get louder as they get older, but they're a little mild at the moment, so bring it on! :D
I've got the 2.5" offset in and center out Flowmaster DF 40's on my 1980. 2.5" true dual with no cats and a H balance pipe. It sounds awesome. Classic metallic Flowmaster sound that's loud but not raspy (because of H pipe). There is resonance inside between 1600-1900 rpm that can be annoying to some but I like it.
You need to go with offset inlet because of the sharp bend in the pipe. I went with center out to get a wider look in back, it makes the 3" chrome pipe tips a little farther apart (more toward the corners of the Vette) and I like that look. Stock is offset/offset, like 82dukman's pic above. The size inlet and outlet depends on what pipe you go with. Just measure what's on the car now because you never know who has changed it in the past. :smash: I went with 2.5" pipe from headers back for performance.
Chris: I installed the Dynomax Super Turbos with 2 1/2" offset inlet and outlet on my '81 last year. Bought them at local auto parts store for around $30 each. Only problem was getting turn down tips to fit, as most are 2" or 21/4". I found some 2/1/2", outside tips at Advance Auto, and had local muffler shop stretch/expand them, so they'd fit over the outlet, and they work great.
