Default seat removal

anyone knows the procedure for removing the seats of a 77 vette? I've order an assembly manual, but it haven't arrived yet and I would like to start on replacing the carpet on my day off.

Four bolts per seat. Two in front and two in back. First slide the seat all the way backwards. Remove the two front bolts. Then slide the seat all the way forwards, and remove the two rear bolts. Lift seat out of car, and repeat on other side.

Sounds like you've done this before DB! I'd only add that the bolts may be seized. Spray them down with penatrating oil top & bottom before you start. You may find like I did, that they are rusted in place and need to be cut off. Check for rusted mounting plates under the floor. Same goes for the seat belt reinforcements under there.

My only addition to what DB and eastltd already mentioned I find it easier to remove the T-tops getting them out without scraping the tracks on the door frame.

Ha ha that's assuming the tops are even on the car. Mine are NEVER on the car so I guess I always assume that when someone is working on the interior that they have already removed the tops.

Oh, big tip, when reinstalling the driver's seat...don't slide the seat in with the back down and bolt it in only to find that the seat back is now pinned under the steering wheel. The wheel stops the seat back from falling as far as it does on the passenger side so it's easy to slide in with the back under the wheel.

I have not done this but I have heard it is common enough for me to mention it to you as a precaution.

I'veremoved my seats a few times and all of the above applies. It's a very simple and quick removal, the only other thing I can suggest is when you take the seats out, open the doors!

As stated, just four bolts then up and out. Home Depot SS bolts ($4.00) with anti-seize compound going back in. No more problems for 30 years+.

*edit*- That assumes a fiberglass floor. If you have a steel floor then....

When replacing seat belts I found all the bolts and reinforcement plates to be complete rusted and frozen. Had to cut the bolts and custom built new plates. PITA job but turn out right.
