Default Engine replacement opinions, please.

I have a 82 with the CF 350 that is sick (dieing). I am retired and enjoy speed but want something that is not going break everything behind it.
I was looking on ebay at a 350-425hp turnkey with a Monster 700r4. Or a 350-375hp with the same tranny.
I do not want troubles later on with this much HP. Am I asking for trouble?
If anyone has a good streetable combo they would recommend I would appreciate it.
Thanks

engines in the 400hp range shouldn't be a big problem with a good strong tranny behind it. As long as you keep a reasonably size tire in the rear and aren't using racing slicks to hook up the tires will act as your "pressure relief valve" and will break free before enough force is induced to break other driveline parts like yokes, halfshafts, rears, etc.
As long as you aren't completely out there abusing the h*ll out of the car and you don't have racing slicks to really hook up on the traction you should be fine although I would at least recommend going thru and carefully inspecting the rest of the drivetrain just to make sure everything looks good and there aren't existing issues that should be addressed because if there are current issues with any part than the increased power and torque will most likely cause them to fail much sooner than they normally would.

My engine builder has a 325HP 350 crate that he builds for $2100.00. I am going to upgrade the heads to aluminum, the price and HP difference is worth it. I should end up at around 360 HP. Just right for a daily driver, and should still knock off 21-22 MPG

Thanks for the info. I planned on a complete redo of the drive line, shafts yokes universals, etc.
I do not race, but enjoy an imprompt to "run" at it.
I have been competing with my best friend since child hood, motocycles, snowmobiles, planes, etc. and I do not want to come up short with this project but I want it reliable.

I guess I am also asking if some of you had to do it over again, how much HP would you put in your Vette?
And would you want a 350 or a 383?

Started out with stock 195hp, went to about 300HP then about 400HP then 550HP and now I am over 600hp and looking at Whipple Supercharger already, does that answer your question.

Seriously it doesn't take long to get used to the HP go with the 383

I'm getting ready to get me an engine. I've decided on the 355HP ZZ4, but will rip the intake off and install an Edelbrock fuel injection system.
