I finally got the clock out. blctalon, I hope you're right, because thats exactly what happened to mine. I pulled the stud straight out and was able to get needle nose vise grips on the barrel, and then take nut off, but it's now it's broken.
Houston we have a problem. I put the quartz converision in today and when I went ot hook up the center cluster, the center cluster lights come on, the temp guage pegs and teh fuels gauge drops to it's lowest point. Also, the clock still didn't work. I then took the clock back out, and hooked up the center gauge cluster again, and all was back to normal without the clock installed. Anyone have any ideas? Also, how do you bench test the clock?
Ok, now I've got a different problem. First, I found that the stud coming out of the back of the clock didn't have the rubber grommet propertly positioned, so the metal stud was touching the housing. I fixed that, and now the clock works, but only with the lights off. As soon as I turn the dash lights on it stops working. When I turn them back off again, the clock will run for about 1 second backwards and then resume normal function.
Roger, you were dead on. I don't have much time to fool with it tonight, but I put a jumper from the housing to a ground and the clock worked with the lights on. I'll investigate further tomorrow to find out how to correctly fix it.
Good glad that helped. The stud at 6 oclock on the fuel gauge is the cluster and clock ground if you follow the printed circuit over to the plug make sure that contact is making a good connection to the plug. The 9 oclock stud on the voltmeter also needs to go to ground.
The pics show your copper "foil" fingers at the harness plug looking nice and flat but I have had weird gage issues due to getting them out of position by not being careful enough plugging in the dash harness. Good luck.
Problem solved! Roger, it looks like the 6:00 stud on the gas guage wasnt' tight, but all is well now. Now I can get it all buttoned up for a nice new years drive tomorrow! Thanks again to everyone for all their help, this forum is the best.
