Default Tires. Front and Rear???? help

I was about to order my tires today 255x60x15 all around BFGoodrich

BUT I was thinking that will it look better if it get 255x60x15 FRONT and 255x70x15 for the REAR

Im sure the 255x60x15 will fit the FRONT.

Im not that sure if 255x70x15 fits the REAR and will it look better??

Please help. I ned tires ASAP. My tires are about to pop very soon. I dint know that buying tires can be this hard.

I have 255/60/15 on all four corners of my 78 and like the look.....If you wanted significantly wider tires on the rear, you could go with 295/50/15 with relatively the same tire height. They will stick out though....

My 1980 vette came with 255/60R/15 from factory all the way around. There are some guys here with 275/60 R/15 on the rear. On an 8" wheel they should fit without issue.

If just wanted a visual difference between the front and rear, you could run 235/60/15 on the front and 255/60/15 on the rear......

I have an '80 with 255/60 15 in the front, and 275/60 15 in the rear with no problems running on the stock rims.

I had 255/60/15's for 25 years and a few months ago switched to SLP's 17 in rims with 255/45/17 ZR's in front and 255/50/17's in the rear. The reason I went with different size tires front and rear was because the 78-79 vettes have a rear biased squat look due to the body shape on the frame (not a sagging look due to a worn rear spring which can make the rear squat), assuming everything is in good shape. I also could not go to a smaller diameter rear tire without upping the rear ratio which is 3.70. I also have 1 in shorter coil springs in the front that along with the 1 in shorter front tires gives the car a slightly front biased look which I like very much. It looks like a vette should now. If you like this look of the early 70's vettes, I would go with 245/60/15's in the front and 255/60/15's in the rear perserving the axel ratio. Stay away from the 70 series profile if you can since these tires will make the tires more non performance than the 15 in tires available already are.

Hi

275 will fit in the back.
I have them on my 68 and they fit without any modifications, like parking brake bracket relocation or offset arms.

As previously stated, you do not want to mix match 60 series and 70 series on the same car. It will look bad and drive bad. A 255 70 will be more narrow and taller than the 60 series on the front. Wide tires on the front with a narrow tire on the back will just look real bad and I do believe the 255 70 is too tall for the car (it's more of a truck tire). Some guys are running 255/60 up front with either 295/50 on rear or 275/60. The 295/50 is only about 1/2 inch shorter than the 255/60 so it is not really noticable, but it is much wider. Moving the parking brake is probably needed, but an easy mod. The specs say a 295/50 will fit the 8inch wide wheel, but it looks kinda ballooned out. 275/60 on the rear fit fine on the 78-82 Vettes and look the best in my opinon. I'd either run 255/60 all around or 275/60 on the rear.

I run 255/60 in front and 275/60 in back with no mods on a 79. Fits and looks great. Rear tires are about 1 inch wider and 1 inch taller than the front. Barely noticable, but beefy looking. With a 3:70 rear gear, the taller tire helped with cruising speeds also.

It looks tough though!
I was torn between the 275/60 and 295/50 on the rear when shopping for tires too. If the rims where wider, I would have gone with the 295's.

Are your rear fenders flared??? Any pictures from the rear of the car???
295's look bad *** from the back!

The 70 series will be taller, but it will not be wider. 255 is 255 is 255...
