well, we call them "loudmasters" for a reason, i usually use Magnaflows, true dual, with an H pipe, or an X pipe, whatever fits.

I think the magnas sound a lot richer and deeper, the loudmasters sound crappy. imho

I personally don't like the flowmasters at all as well. I have found that just about all of the traditional mufflers, flowmaster, dynomax super turbos and ultra flo's, as well as the standard replacement mufflers, make the C3's sound like traditional muscle cars or some of these mufflers make the car sound like a "motor boat" if you run true duals with no cats. I have magnaflows on a 1994 mustang gt with 4 cats (california car with 2 pre cats and 2 regular cats) with an H pipe and they make the car sound great! I would run Magnaflows on my car if it were not for the fact that all the magnaflows I have seen for 78-82 vettes all run a 2 in down spout exhaust pipe, like the OEM mufflers. I am not too keen on running shorty headers to a 2.5 true dual pipes into a 2.5 in muffler inlet and then to a 2 in outlet, even if it is a magnaflow, since the 2 in outlet will restrict and negate some of the benefits of the system before the muffler. For this reason, I run Pacesetter Monza Turbos (part # 88-1358) for 20 years with dual functioning chrome muffler pipe tip outlets that point straight out the back of the car (like on the C4's) which both tips equal to a 3 in outlet per side. These mufflers sound great with a smooth european sound and sound mean but not obnoxious! Many vendors on the internet have the Pacesetter Monzas and ecklers and Corvette South have a very similiar looking muffler but I am not sure who makes theirs. Corvette South's mufflers are $272 and a company called All Exhaust has the pacesetter Monza's for $295 all inclusive including shipping which is free, if you are interested.

Which Flowmaster are we talking about here? Like many of the muffler makers, there is more than one model, some louder than others. I have Flowmaster Delta 50's on my true dual no cat 80, and I wish it were louder. So, not all FM's will rattle your teeth out, contrary to popular belief here on the forum. My suggerstion is to attend somecar shows and talk to some owners. I am sure they will fire up a car for you to hear and see what blows your skirt up. Some love Flowmasters...other's Magnaflows, sill more might like Walker, and on and on. You gotta see what you like in my opinion.

Get the Magnaflows, put the $1500 I sunk into "research" into other mufflers, including Flowmaster to good use

Muffler sound is all personal opinion.
Flowmaster makes so many muffler configurations that it is hard to give you a solid answer without knowing the actual series that they are recommending.
In general though, most Flowmasters are definitely loud & aggressive.
Spintechs can also range from somewhat quiet to seriously obnoxious depending on model.
The best way to chose is to find a car that you like the sound of, and ask the owner what mufflers it has.
