Default How do you fix this?????

How involved is it to fix this and how much would a body shop charge?

Who would you trust to do it?

Thx

dont have any experience, but from what i can see its only the top mount.. your frame is fine.

looks like it is just the metal plate that attaches to the body...

but like i said.. im just guessing..

That's a DIY project. The parts are readily avaiable and easy to install.

There are two of these on your car; another on the other side. What does it look like? No sense crawling under there to replace one, only to come back later and do the second.

I was able to replace the #4 body mounts on my 69 coupe with no real problems. I've read convertibles are tougher to do.

Soak the cage nuts from inside the car with PB or something similar--for a long time. Then back the bolt out from underneath. Then grind off the rivets, and remove the mount. That might be a bit tough---the area "inside" the steel mount is not hollow!

It would be a good idea to support the rear of the body with a wood shim between the body and the frame above the wheel, or something behind the car.

To put them in, I carefully put pressure on the rear of the body with a floor jack and a long piece of 2x8 under the car...I think I supported it at the bottom of the cargo area behind the diff carrier. Tapped the new mount in place, bolted it up, and re-rivitted. Don't forget about the spacers/shims and make sure they go back where they belong.

Done, and pretty easy A good DIY job.

Others might disagree and say that all the mounts may need to be unbolted to lift the body to change the #4 mounts, but this method worked for me. Hope this helps

Joe

The other side looks ok except for the rubber mount. I will replace the rubber when I fix the other side.

Thx

I doubt you could find a body shop who would do it,and I doubt you would want them to attempt it if you did find one. They would likely price it at about 2 grand to scare you off but would do it if you fell for the price!Your best bet is to do it yourself,a PITA but not out of the realm of a decent DIY'er or find the local vette specialist who has done a few of these. If you were in my area,I would be able to help you out.

If you are going in to the the #4 mounts in the back, you might as well do the other six as well. My number 4's looked just like this. Don't bank on getting the cage nuts to loosen so have your saw ready to cut the bolt. It is no big deal and with a sawzall takes little time.
