More Cam swap questions
Can someone tell me if the cup shaped pieces on top of the springs are a standard part on a 71 350 motor?
The are seperate from the retainer and appear to be just under the retainer.

The GM application was 55-79 Y (8 CYL.)Part number 3836755 It was called a Valve Stem Oil Shield. If you are talking about the part under the valve spring cap (the part the keepers hold down).

That was the part I was asking about.
If I buy Crane retainers , will they work with these shields?
Or do I need to keep the current or current type of retainers?

Typically on a head rebuild with aftermarket or high performance components these are no longer needed....The stock valve guide seal will be replaced with an umbrella type seal instead of the Chevrolet o-ring type making the splash shields unnecessary.
I have never re-used them after a valve spring upgrade....
