Default 8-point Rollbar Advice

Well I've been working on my car over the holidays, and now I have come to the rollbar install. I got the Jegster 8-point kit. It was cheap, and I am pretty decent at welding/fabbing so I thought it would be a good place to start. I just ordered the 2009 NHRA rulebook to make sure it meets all the specs as well. I searched around on the forum to get some idea's and see what other C3 guys have done who put cages/bars in their cars, but I was only able to find a couple of threads on it unfortunately. I am mainly interested in mounting points and how they attached it to the frame. Maybe some of you guys with NHRA spec roll bars/cages could post some pictures or offer some friendly advice. Thanks!

I have hundred of pictures posted here on the forum, but 3-4 months ago they took away the ability to scan through them so I can't post them.

But i do have a few on my CF home page.

All of my bars go through holes cut in the body interior to being welded to the tops of the frame rails. MY Cage is NHRA & SCCA legal

That car is beautiful, but I would never fit in it with those bars and seats.

gkull:
I had seen some pictures of your cage in the old threads I found. Tastefully done, I like it. So you welded the cage to the frame? I was thinking about trying to weld plates to the cage and bolt those plates to the frame. That way it would be easier to take the body off the frame if I ever needed to. I wasn't quite sure about the NHRA legality of that though.

Were you able to mount the cross bar (across the door opening) to the frame rail, or do you have some steel plate extending off the frame of something? It seems like the frame rail would be hard to access directly from that area.

.... ummm.....

Anyone else with rollcage experience/pics feel free to chime in!

My down tubes next to your calf is on a welded to the bottom of the frame plate. I would have preferred it to be out on the top of frame for more leg room.

You are right. My cage would have to be cut to remove the body. The bolt down plate to plate is legal with 4 X 3/8 grade 8 nyloc fine thread bolts per plate

I just helped my brother welding in a 6 point in his 88 firebird formula. However he does not have a full frame.
Helping him got me thinking about a "bolt in" rollcage that would meet NHRA specs. I definitely want to be able to remove the body if needed. Norval did this but I'm not sure if his bolt in cage met NHRA specs.
GKull...What thickness plate is needed if you wanted to do a standoff plate off the frame? then weld the bar to the same thickenss plate then bolt them together with the (Q)4 x 3/4" grd 8 nyloc bots. Is there a point where a bolt-in cage is not allowed? 7 sec faster cars?

You have to get the rule book. You would need to look at Super gas 8.91 - 9.90 and then the 9.90 to 10.90. class.

My plates are 1/4 for the standoff on the front down hoops

I used the Jegster 8-point kit and made a 5 point 'rollbar'. I 'think' it is NHRA legal, but haven't had it looked at yet. My welds kind of suck, so I'm going to take it out and reweld some of them eventually, but it fits perfect. I pulled the main hoop in a bit and welded mounting plates to the top kick up area of the frame rather than take it down behind the seats, where I was worried I would lose legroom.
