?? Where does this go?

Question for you guys who did the 700 conversion. You know the bracket that is on the shift cable that is bolted to the transmission inspection cover? It's on the cable and bolts to the tranny. What did you do with it for the 700? It doesn't seem to fit now.

I cut a section out of mine and welded it back together. It's not pretty but it worked out well. I believe that the difference was about 1/2".

miker, thanks, and btw, what exactly does it do? do i need it to drive around with?

I bought the shifter modification kit from ecklers several years ago. It came with the bracket you speak of for fitment on a 700-R4 pan.

It simply anchors the casing of the shifter cable.
I don't believe that you would be able to make gear selections without it.

i think we are talking about a different bracket. the bracket i'm looking at is further up on the cable and connects to the column on the side up on the driver's side. I read in my book and i think that it controls the key function while the trans is in gear. If it's in reverse say, then you can't pull the key out of the ign. But i can't seem to get this bracket to go back in the same spot.
