Default Need Pulley Advice

I have a new GMPP ZZ383 and want to use as many of my original 1971 350 cu. in. parts as possible to set up pulleys and accessories. The ZZ motor comes thru with an 8" harmonic balancer which my stock lower pulley appears that it will mate to, but not sure if balancer on ZZ changes pulley alignment? Plan on a DeWitt set-up with electric fans and was going to use a "1971 Vette specific" Stewart short water pump but not sure if it will line up with power steering and alternator brackets. Car does not have air conditioning. I read 17 pages of archives from here with a lot of conflicting info. Is there anyone out there who has made this swap and KNOWS what will definitely work. I am on a budget() and would like to get it right the first time around. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

yeah mate pulleys a real pain in the *** if you dont have them in front of you to swap and test. i dont have a zz383 and dont know about the balancer they use so i cant comment. all i can say is i found the corvette specific water pump to be the problem child with its larger shaft so when i changed to a weiland pump i just got a regular short pump with regular pulleys for all accessories and worked a charm. you say your doing it on a budget so i would def try and get hold of the right parts before you buy because like you say DO IT RIGHT ONCE.

I installed a ZZ4 not a Z383 so I'm not sure if the balancer is the same but if so everything lined up perfectly for me; pwr steering, A/C, and Alternator. I changed the waterpump to the short style and used the GM aluminium pump. Don't have the p/n handy but if interested I can post later.

I am in the process of installing a ZZ383 in my 1980. I have installed the power steering pump, water pump, fuel pump and alternater and all seems to be going well. The 8" harmonic balancer does not seem to be a problem. The power steering bracket is close. It looks like everything bolts up fine.
