I'm finishing the 700r4 conversion. Started it today for the first time, and noticed there is a "scraping" sound when it's put in park.
Any comments on this?
(The car is still on jackstands, haven't driven yet.)
Ingar, by the sound of the exchange from you and Ganey, I think you better check the adjustment on the shift cable, in Park, the real wheels should be locked and NOT moving under any circumstances, and be in fact locked so the car would not move, IF they are turning at all, sure you can stop them with the brake....but if the tranny shift cable/some thing is preventing that internal parking 'Paul' shaft from engaging the parking gear tooth you will get a rubbing sound of metal grinding, similar to what you describe.....better check more carefully....it can cause major damage....
I was unclear. When I said the wheels were freely moving I meant that they were up in the air.
Normally when you go from reverse to park the wheels are not turning, but since my car was on jackstands they turned, hence that scraping sound.
I've driven the car today.
Really a nice experience after all the work. Especially given the beautiful sunny spring like weather we're having over here.
Everything seems to work as it should.
Even the shaft, which I had to shorten myself, wasn't vibrating.
