My stock damper has an 8" outside diameter.
Many replacement dampers for SB 350 have smaller diameters, beginning from 6".
Logically, a smaller damper should be lighter and give the engine a higher acceleration rate. But what about its efficiency ? Is it as good as a bigger damper ?
What harmonic balancer diameter do you have guys on your SB ?

The larger the diameter, the more effective the damper is, all other things being equal. Unless you are a Pro Racer, you'd be better served with the largest diameter that will fit properly.
I have a thread going on this as well, but its more of a "correctness" question. Does it matter which 8" damper you use?
If your engine is going to "see" more than 6000-6500 RPM, yes it matters.
A SFI 18.1 damper is highly recommanded in this case. But it seems to be difficult to find a 8" SFI 18.1 compliant damper.
Most of them are smaller. And here we go again !
