Default I need HHHEEEELLLPPPPPPPP!!!!

While completing my headers install I cut a steel line under the car with a Sawzall. Here what I know, it's leaking transmission fluid. Their are two steel lines running side by side coming out from under the transmission. I cut the one closet to the passenger side. I need to know several things:
1.What did I cut?
2.Can I replace it myself with limited tools?
3. Where can I buy one?
4. Where does the other end of that line connect as it looks like it is heading toward the front of the car. :mad :mad :mad :smash: :smash: :smash:

No big deal... Those are transmissin cooler lines that send fluid through the radiator and back. They are low pressure lines so you can slide a piece of rubber hose over the two ends and clamp it with some worm gear clamps. Just make sure the hose is made for oil and fuel, not vacuum. :yesnod:

Those lines go to the radiator. I'd think you can easily replace them, but I'm not sure... Try the forum restoration store--I bet they have the lines.

Don't be upset--it coulda been a lot worse; you could have cut the fuel line, and then you'd be looking at the start of a complete frame off resto.... :jester

What if I just nicked it? Should I go ahead and cut it the rest of the way so I can put the hose and clamps on????? Or should I cut a short section of hose split it then put it on and clamp it.

You will have to cut it. Just don't leave any metal shavings to get int the line and file away any burrs. A hose that is split to go over it won't work. It will leak. If you can find new lines that would be ideal but a hose will work. Some cars use hose as part of the run.

Hey Warp, old Babenhausen fellow!

As was said, should be no big deal!
What I recommend is:
Dont do it with a sawzall, get a pipe cutter to get a clear and sharp cut without debris intruding the lines.
Its possible that they will circulate around and come back in the trans. This will kill the tranny then..... :mad

OK take the pipe cutter and cut a small piece around the nick.
Then take a good rubber hose and slide it over the line, every side at least 3"!!!
Take two worm clamps each side - just in case!!! Tranny fluid is good lubricator and when I had only one clamp on the hose slided from the line - what a mess!!!

This should bring you on the road again!

Watch out for march! I will show up and look at it! :yesnod: :D

Man you guys are great !!!!!! The leak is fixed, but I am going to have to pick up a few more worm clamps for safe measure. I owe you each a beer or something :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:

One word of caution about putting on a hose and clamps, periodically take a look at it to make sure that it is not leaking, hoses UNDER a car a prone to being damaged by rocks and what not, you do not want to have to buy a new transmission over this.
