Default unknown cam specs and vortec heads

I have a 1977 L48. The previous owner told me that the owner before him installed a crane fireball cam but did not get the specs on it. I am interested in installing vortec heads but would like to not have to change the cam if necessary. Is there a way to test if the lift will be too much for the stock vortec heads? I've researched fireball cam specs and they seem to vary widely. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Scott

Pull a valve cover and measure the distance from full open to full close on an intake and exhaust valve. I think stock vortec heads will take around .450.
Comp has a beehive spring that will increase this without machine work.

If you are already going to take the heads off, you might as well put a cam in there that matches and one that you know the specs on. I'm not sure that I would want to chance it with a head swap when you can get a summit cam for $100 or so bucks that would work great with the vortec heads.
