OK, I finally got back to working on my 79 Vette. It won't start.
I measured the voltage at the pink wire coming into the distributor. 12 volts with the key in the on position, drops to 8 volts when the engine is spinning.
Check the test light pattern at the tach terminal on the distributor. Starts out with a bright flashing light, then changes to a steady dim light after 1 second of engine spinning.
I had the ignition module tested at the parts store. Checked out OK. I have it installed with plenty of dielectric grease.
Tried 3 coils, including a brand new one. The concensus seems to be that I need 12 volts while starting. 8 volts ain't gonna cut it. I'll wire the BAT terminal on the distributor directly to the battery and see what happens.
