Default Advice on L48 rebuild

I have a 73 L48/195HP/3.08 gears, that I'm getting ready to pull. Thinking about a slight upgrade in cam. Also considering possibly boring to .030 over. Putting back stock intake, Q-Jet, and replacing 2" exhaust with 2 1/2". Any suggestions re: a mild cam for moderate HP increase without negatively affecting idle? Any other suggestions/advice would be appreciated.

It all depends on if you want it to appear stock or modified. Even if the prior, I personally would perform internal mods that would increase your HP (e.g. comp. ratio) and not reveal themselves on the outside. Sleeper!

your 3.08 rear limits your cam choice somewhat....I'm using a compcams 260H which is pretty mild but does a decent job of digging me out of the hole compared to stock....didnt have to change valve springs w/that one either.....I like it....but most folks thinks its toooo mild...good luck whatever you choose :seeya. PS a good aluminum dual plane intake will help on the lowend boost too :yesnod:

Automatic? Do not get the Summit 204/214-.420/.442 grind. I did, thinking that since it has the same specs as the Edelbrock Performer cam it would work good with mild mods, auto, and 3.08 gears. Wrong, it's a wimp. If Ganey were here I think He'd suggest a Comp XE256 for an otherwise stock motor with TH400, 3.08's. OR....leave your motor alone for now and get yourself some 3.70's like me! It's a little more expensive than a cam swap, but the results are fantastic. And, it opens up a lot more possibilities for future engine mods(bigger cams!). Good luck! Love those '73's!
