Default Crate 290 hp cooling issue (cont'd)

I have an after market transmission cooler unit in front of my radiator.
By area the unit covers around 25% of the radiator surface and sits very close, but it actually looks like it covers more with the angle of the radiator.
The cooler unit is quite dense in structure and would not permit much air to suck through particularly at standstill.
I would have to suspect this is very restrictive for the cooling system particularly if the transmission unit itself is carrying reasonable heat.
Is anyone using this set up successfully or have experience.

Are you driving the car very hard? I mean, exploring the entire RPM band with every shift and being aggressive? The reason I ask is because most street cars don't need a transmission fluid cooler. Having one helps the life of the transmission but I would say you could get yourself a much smaller frame mounted finned fluid cooler and mount it somewhere where it gets air but so it doesn't block the radiator.

I installed a square 10" cooler with a small fan and a T-stat that turns the fan on when the trans fluid temp in the line reaches 195. I have driven two summers and the fan has never once switched on. I tested the T-stat so I know the fan and switch work...the fluid just doesn't get hot enough with the small cooler to need the fan.

Try a smaller cooler in a different location and see if that makes you more comfortable.
