During a search i ran across a post from 5-speed paul (from about 4 years ago) it stated for the front leak to, remove the trans mount bolts. Loosen the 4 bellhouseing bolts, slide the tranny back about a 1/2 inch. Clean with brake cleaner an seal with rtv. I used a small piece of paper thin gasket an coated both sides with rtv an slide it up in there to cover the cluster pin, pulled the tranny back up an low an behold no more leak. Thanks paul
Only problem now it pours from the rear seal. I pulled the yoke, it was pretty rough so i took some 180 emory cloth an strap lapped it for about a hour, now it looks decent. Installed a new seal an it still pours!!!!!!!! Now i"m lost as what to try, can i measure the od of my yoke to see how bad it"s worn? I"d need a measurment off a new yolk. I looked at the box the seal came in, an it says federal mogul made in taiwan. Should i go to the chevy dealer an try another seal? The seal i used barely fit the yoke shaft with hardly any restiance at all. Seems all i need is a trick seal with a slightly smaller id david
That seal will only go in one way, i did not use grease but i did pre oil the shaft. I was looking an there"s 3 differant seals for a 32 splin yoke. I am going to pull the yoke an take it with me to see if i can find a seal that fits a little tighter.
i emery clothed the yoke also and did not get good results.. i had to buy a new yoke and seal both.. I found a good one for 70, but they are 135 at the parts houses...

Hmm. I just bought a new seal for mine - it would install either direction - but I don't think there is more than one seal diameter that is correct for all the M's in a vette from '53-'82. I'm no tranny expert though.
I seem to remember the yoke was $135 at Zip; if it is worn at all don't put it in. You risk beating on the rear tranny bearing. You need to put a new rear seal and yoke in at the same time. I had this problem when I still had the Muncie in, but the rear bearing eventually went. Do everything at once -- trust me.
A new yoke and seal will work for a while. The big thing to look at is the bushing in the tailshaft housing. If the bushing is worn the yoke will flop around in the housing. That will cause the new yoke to ware and new seal will not hold in the gear lube.
I found another seal that fits good an sung on the yoke. Its a national brand f/m seal with the moog lable on the package #9449 I checked the yoke for play just by hand i would say it has a few thousants. Hopefully that will be ok. I pressure washed everything under there an put about 150 miles on it, not a drop yet.
I checked the specs on both seals, an there the exact same. But the seal in there now is 3 times as snug on the yolk as the first one i tried, an was 10 times harder to get in the case. I"ll keep a eye on it an keep my fingers crossed, but i still want a supercase
