After replacing the shift cable in my auto tranny for the 3rd time in 6 months :mad I almost broke another one today. It seems that after driving the car a while and then stopping for something the tranny will be stuck in 3rd gear and the only way to put it in park is to manually shift it by going under the car and shifting it where the cable meets the tranny. Has anyone else had this problem and know how to fix it?
Thanks,
Chaz
PS It doesn't do it every time just every once in a while.
I've never had any problem with mine but it seems that something must be binding and eventually causing the hang up. I'd disconnect the cable from the shift lever on the tranny and go from there. If the cable is not bent too tight and moves freely with the shifter in the car it would seem to be something wrong with the tranny itself.
