Default Replacing Timing Chain

Does anybody know if a double roller timing chain and gears will fit under the stock timing cover on a small block?

YES, the Cloys double roller will fit, and last a VERY long time too....

Timing set replacement is easy. Make sure you have the proper tools, especially the damper puller and installer. Just a bunch of nuts and bolts. And your engine will love you for it. Cloyes double roller is a top notch piece. A stock engine can get by with a good single non-roller. But the Cloyes is certainly a nice piece...

Why be afraid, it's not a crime to disagree But since not all of us are a contortionist... You just removed fan, waterpump, radiator and shroud and had enough room to handle a puller? Did you work from above the engine or did you use a bridge?

No need to remove the radiator or fan shroud. You can work from above the engine, but on some of the more difficult or repetative uses of the puller, I had to ballance on my stomache on the fender. use a blanket if you like your paint. More then possible,, it's done.

The car was on jackstands so work was done from above and below. We replaced rear main seal, oil pump, FelPro oil pan gasket, front seal, Cloyes timing set, rad hoses, waterpump, and all drive belts. One of those "while-you're-at-it" Saturdays.

Love those one-piece pan gaskets! They really eliminate one of the more serious PIAs of the SBC.

shouldn't a gear drive fit under the cover too? and now that i know about the one piece pan gaskets is there a way to convert to a one piece rear main on the original blocks?

Thanks for your replies. Looks like I'm gettin' a Cloyes double roller setup.

Paul 74 I'm doin' the same as you plus rebuilding the upper control arms and steering box.
