Hey.......back again with another tech question. window motor has a ball clutch as the final drive, (slips), I have to get the stinking motor out first before I can do the repair. How does the motor come out? Back later.........thanks.......Bryan.......p s.......pics really are coming.
I'm assuming you are talking about the door glass power window motor. On my 79 you need to remove the window regulator with the motor attached. The regulator is spring loaded and if you remove the motor without without installing a bolt through the two holes in regulator gears you'll be sorry or missing a finger. Look for the holes in the gears, align them and install a bolt through them. You can then remove and reinstall the motor. How's the weather in Merced? I used to be a CHP officer at the office on Childs Av. I don't know where the office is now.
Its time consuming but easy. Take the door panel off. Take the cover off the motor at the bottom of the door. Power the window up into position to get at the two bolts that hold it to the track. Pull the glass up off the track. The best think to do is to remove the window entirely. You will notice there is a plastic button shaped stop on the front of the window. It is diffcult to get passed the frame so if you can wedge the window up and out of the way its the best way to go. If you need to remove the glass you will need to undo the front track and move it out of the way. Then you need to twist the windo just right to clear that button. Once you have the glass out of the way you need to drill out the I believe 5 rivits. Unless the assembly has been out before you will have rivits. If it has been out before you will have nuts and bolts. 3 rivits hold the motor in place. 2 rivits hold the center of the regulator in place. After drilling its a visual thing. You will note that the cross member of the regulator is fixed to the up/down tracks. You need to slide the cross member off the up/down tracks. Once you have freed the regulator from the up down tracks you use your power button to collapse the regulator to a size that fits through that access port at the bottom. Believe it or not it will fit through that hole. Once you have it out you can remove the motor and repair it. The coil spring should also be replace they get weak. The spring needs to be installed when the regulator is in the up position. You also need to buy lock nuts and bolts to replace the rivits. Make sure they are not too long. You install the assemble through the same hole. Use the power button to get it to the right size so it goes in.
