Default Balancing Half and drive shafts

Is this needed or is it just a marketing ploy? I am replacing the u-joints and need to know.

The driveshaft is a must do item when it comes to balancing. As far as the halfshafts go, it is only needed for sustained high spped driving(100mph +). I had mine done anyway and can tell you there is no noticable difference at my normal highway cruising speed of 85mph.

I did my driveshaft but not the halfshafts. The drive shaft helped a lot I don't have any drive line vibration

The guy who built my transmission went to Engineering school with my brother, This guy got Straight A's, has a photographic memory and had his pick of jobs out of school. He now works out of his garage rebuilding transmissions....:D

Anyway, he says that you cannot balance a driveshaft off the car since you are negelecting the front and rear yokes. He also said that there is no one he knows of that can balance the driveshaft ON the car...

He IS working on a way but basically DON'T mess with the driveshaft balance!

I don't know about that. There are plenty off drive shaft shops tha tspecialize in this. Mostly truck shafts due to the length and size. The front and rear yokes are very small compared to the rest of the shaft. They might have a slight amount of imbalance but not enough to notice. (unless you are Gkull running his driveshaft about a bazillion rpm). If you can't balance them how come they all come with weights on them for balancing?

For the driveshaft, everytime I have ever had any of mine balanced, I was required to bring the front yoke along . It is then balanced as an assembly, minus the rear yoke. The rear yoke will not make much of a difference.

:nonod: In a production environment (car assembly plant) that is virtually impossible to do. It woould take way too much time. It's much simpler to have the supplier for the driveshaft provide you with a driveshaft that is balanced by itself, a yoke supplier provide you with a balanced yoke, etc...

Balancing my driveshaft is one of my winter projects. Planning on pulling the front yoke with it and replacing the u-joints to get it as well balanced as possible.
