I have a set of vinyl t-tops for my 1979. They are great for fair-weather drivers like me who might hit an occasional bit of rain. Foldable and compact. Fit in the back with lots of room for chairs and coolers compared with the fiberglass or glass versions. A friend wishes to procure a set. These ARE NOT those velcro, stick-um products you seen in the catalogues. They are true 1978-82 pin fit units. If you have a set, let me know. Thanks.
I've been searching for a set of those for about 2 years now with no luck. I sure wish someone would start making them again. I'm going to a big show this weekend, if I find 2 sets I'll get both and let you know.
Thanks, I got these like-new units here on the Forum a year ago. I am simply trying again for a friend. It is so nice to just throw them (they are light) behind the seats in case of rain compared with bagging and securing the bigger units.
Thanks but you missed my original point. If you look closely at the pics you will see that these units replicate the original t-top mounting hardware. The pins at the back for 1978-82 and the t-top slots at the t-bar. Those offered in the catalogues now provide for a velcro fit at the front. Stick-um installation. I am not impressed by this!
OK, I was just going by the desc. in the catalog.
I saw some on an 80 this past weekend and the guy thought that CA is where he got them.
They looked just like what you are showing on yours.
A fellow on the forum had a set for sell back in December. He forum name is rrent. I bought a set from him back in October. The tops will fit a 68-77 and the 78-82 based on with rear pin type comes with the tops. Either pin type can be easliy made if you want the other pin type.

Hey Paul: do they fit snug and tight enough not to flap around at high speeds? I could see carrying them in the back on a possable rain day... just in case.
I do not drive in the rain if I can help it. And rarely with any type of t-top on. But after a cruise afternoon last summer I did get caught in a shower and the vinyl tops went on. Going home was at highway speed (~65mph) and the tops were just fine. I do not consider them a permanent substitute for the fibreglass tops (e.g. for the drag strip) but they are very convenient for the situation just described.
I went to the Orlando NCRS show today, found a set in excellent condition FINALLY! I walked the entire place 3 times just to be sure I wasn't missing anything but they were the only set there, if there would have been another I would have gotten them for you but no luck, and if I told what I paid for them I'd probably get some nasty emails :jester I'll keep it in mind and let you know if I ever find more.
The set I puchased came with both sets of rear pins - for '78 and later and the ones for the triangle shaped latch. I tried using the triangle ones, since that is what was on my '76, but found that the rear latching was better if I removed the triangle latches and used the later pin type. The pins fit into the holes where the triangle pin was removed from the car. Since mine is a fair weather driver, I don't have to worry about reinstalling the original T-Tops.
Paul I was at the NCRS show with Scott.
You wouldn't believe what Scott paid for them.
Tell him Scott! :D
I'm ready to offer 4 times as much if they fit my '69 and they're still a bargain.
Some guys have all the luck!
Sorry Joe, no can do ;) I'd get way to much hate mail. They won't fit your 69 as the mounts are different, I have seen the earlier types and if I ever come across any I'll buy them and post them for sale here. It pays to get to the show early! :D
On another note, a good shop that does convertible tops should be able to easily fabricate these, just a wire frame and a couple of other items, some top material and presto! I could take plenty of pictures for anyone that might want to ask a shop to make some.
