Hi everyone, I seem to be having a problem on my 1979 corvette. last month, the car was working fine, but when i drove it for the first time in a while, the brakes seemed a little odd. Sometimes i press on the brakes, and it brakes normally, but other times, i have to press the brake in a lot more to get the same amount of stopping power. I think this could be a safety issue and i was wondering if you guys know what the problem is. any information would be helpfull!
Thank You!
Your brake sytem should be inspected completley from the brake pedal on out. The best way hands down to do this is to have a good mechanic do it. If your not one, find one. See if you can get it in to him to inspect your brakes with a oil change. A oil change is about the cheapest way to get your car on a rack, and maybe get the inspection free. Its much easier to find good information on correctly doing the repairs than it is to learn how to idenify all the possible problems. I know some people like to bash shops every chance they get, but it is possible for a DIYer to have a good relationship with a good shop and mechanic. They can do your tire work, aligments, a/c charges, diagnostics and other things you cant or dont want to do your self. They wont mind helping you with questions and advise. Just ask around and check with friends, family, co-workers for a good mechanic at a close by shop. Good luck
I also have a 79 and seem to have a similar problem. Would driving it in 20 degree weather in a foot of snow one week and then driving in 0-10 degree weather the next week, and finally 40-60 degree weather this week cause moisture to build up?
